NORWAY – After a year of operating under Bancroft Contracting Corp., Flanders Electric is once again owned by the Flanders family.
Leslie Flanders, who bought the electric business from his father in the mid-’80s, sold it to Bancroft last March. The companies didn’t mesh, he said, because Bancroft “does more heavy industrial work.”
Flanders Electric is a small outfit, with five employees including Flanders and his wife. Customers “are more comfortable with a smaller company,” Flanders said.
He said he sold the business hoping his workers would be better off with a larger company, where they would have better health insurance options. He also hoped operating under Bancroft Contracting would make it easier to comply with federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.
Flanders said he and Bancroft President Mark Bancroft had an exit strategy when he sold the company, and the ownership transition has been smooth.
“Everything will be like it was a year ago, with the same accounting, billing system, phone numbers and vehicles,” he said.
