MEXICO – Spring means Soap Box Derby time. Racers are fine tuning their cars, making race plans and dreaming of a great race season to come.

There is still plenty of time for new racers to get involved, too. It is the oldest running youth racing program in the world.

There will be a meeting for youth ages 8 to 18 and their families who are interested in learning more about the sport. The informational seminar will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Mountain Valley Middle School technology education classroom. Soap box cars will be available for inspection, and current and past racers’ and their families will be there.

While there is still time to purchase a soap box car kit to build, there may also be available area cars. Southern Maine Soap Box Derby will hold its Spring Rally Races May 14 and 15 at Wal-Mart parking lot in Mexico. The big sanctioned race will be June 4, again at Wal-Mart.
