FARMINGTON – Farmington area children, ages 5 to 12, who wish to play T-ball or live pitch in the Farm League Baseball season should plan to attend the sign-up meeting to be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at the Farmington Community Center.

Coaches or representatives of the following teams will be present to meet parents and register children: Farmington Astros, Farmington Black Bears, Farmington Dodgers, Farmington Greyhounds, Farmington Mini-Giants, Farmington Slammers and the Fairbanks Red Sox. An information sheet about the youth program will be available.

Softball meeting

RUMFORD – The Rumford Area Women’s Softball League will hold an organizational meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, in the Greater Rumford Community Center.

Representatives from teams that played last year plus new clubs are requested to attend. Last summer, 10 teams played an 18-game regular season from late May through early August on fields in Rumford, Mexico and Jay. All clubs then qualified for double elimination playoffs.

FARMINGTON – The Franklin County Democratic Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Student Center at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Spring cleaning

LIVERMORE FALLS – The Betterment Group will clean and paint light poles downtown on April 17 and 24. They will also do clean-up work along the riverbank and mulching. Volunteers are welcome and needed. Tools will be provided. Meet at 7 a.m. Sunday near the Chuckwagon Restaurant.

AVON – Opportunity Center of North Franklin County’s board of directors will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at 105 Avon Valley Road. The public is welcome.

Safety course

STRONG – SAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a hunter safety course for certification from 6 to 9 p.m. on April 24, 26, 28 and 29 at the Foster Memorial Building, Main Street. The instructor is Rick Rogers and the cost of the course is $10. Class size is limited to 40 and preregistration is required by April 20.

Tree sale

FARMINGTON – Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation District’s tree/shrub program sale is taking place. Time is running out for tree and shrub discounts. There are many plants/shrub left to buy at discount prices. Proceeds from all remaining plants on sale will benefit educational programs.

Orders will be taken at a reduced sale price until May 3 for items such as roses, weigelas, hostas, blueberries, cranberries, comfrey, English ivy, cranberry, creeping red sedum, hydrangea and erosion control plants.
