DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Historical Society will hold its first spring meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the Dixfield Historical Society Charter Meeting Room. The program will be “Whatchamacallit Night” and the recent Sara F. Pepper acquisition of archival papers and various artifacts will be on display. Members and guests are requested to bring a “whatchamacallit” or favorite antique for a guessing game. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited.

Quit smoking

RUMFORD – A support group for those who have quit tobacco, are trying to quit or thinking of quitting will be available starting Friday, April 15. The group will meet at 6 p.m. in the Rumford Hospital cafeteria. Future meetings, times and dates will be discussed. For more information or to sign up, call Stephanie Thompson at 364-7408.

Screening

RUMFORD – Kindergarten screening for St. Athanasius and St. John School has been set. Mary Kaubris, kindergarten teacher, will hold a screening beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30. Parents should call the school at 364-2528 to register a child and schedule an appointment. Registrations for grades one through eight are also being accepted.

Identity theft

PARIS – An identity theft forum, “When Bad Things Happen to Your Good Name,” will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Western Maine University and Community College Center, 232 Main St., South Paris. Seating is limited; RSVP to janet.glidden@sba.gov or phone 622-8557.

Kids’ fun day

MEXICO – A fund-raising event, “Let’s Give Cancer the Boot,” a children’s fun day at God’s L’il Ranch being sponsored by Friend Forever Relay For Life team, will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Millers residence, 23 Worcester St.

Supervision is required. Cost is $5 each or three for $12, which includes face painting, barnyard games, horse rides, a hot dog, drink, popcorn, cotton candy and ice cream.

Those planning to be led on a horse will need to have a consent form signed, which will be available.

Parents can have pictures taken while riding a horse for an additional $5.
