Local recreation officials are looking for volunteers to help buff up the Twin Cities on May 7.

Lewiston and Auburn recreation departments, working with Project Neighborhood, are planning a massive cleanup campaign that Saturday in city parks and streets, rain or shine. Called “Clear Skies; Clean Streets,” it starts at 9:30 a.m. in Lewiston’s Kennedy Park and Auburn’s Festival Plaza.

In Lewiston, cleanup efforts will concentrate on the Lisbon Street corridor, Railroad Park, Kennedy Park, Pierce Street Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Marcotte Park and the Multi-Purpose Center.

In Auburn, cleanup will include Festival Plaza, Riverwalk, Bonney Park, Moulton Park, and the Mechanics Row and Great Falls Plaza areas. Students from Franklin Alternative School will be working at Oak Hill Cemetery and students from Auburn Middle School will be working at Chestnut Street and Pettengill parks.

A post-cleanup celebration is scheduled at noon at the Multi-Purpose Center, 145 Birch St., Lewiston. Food has been donated by Town and Country Meats, Papa John’s, Tim Hortons, Subway and Poland Spring, and will be prepared by the Salvation Army. Games, activities music will be provided by the Downtown Neighborhood Association and Bates College radio station WRBC.

The project is also sponsored by the Lewiston and Auburn police departments, the Androscoggin County Chamber of Commerce, New Beginnings, LA Trails, Maine Shockers, Edward Little High School, Lewiston-Auburn College Media Department and the Lewiston Rotary Club.
