RUMFORD – The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life Teams are gearing up for Relay For Life that takes place on May 20 and 21 at the Hosmer Field Complex.

Teams are working to achieve the honors of having brought the most funds in for this event. One way that they try to accomplish this is by having fund-raisers before the event takes place in May.

On Saturday, April 30, Michael’s Angels relay team will be holding a cut-a-thon and yard sale and cookie decorating at TA-Dah’s Styling Salon on Main Street in Mexico from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tammy Burgess, owner of TA-Dah’s, will be offering hair cuts for $10 with all proceeds going to Relay For Life. Ted Walker will be doing a demonstration of chain-saw carving at this event.

At Wal-Mart in Mexico on Saturday, April 30, the National Honor Society relay team will be holding a car wash and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wal-Mart will match whatever money raised that day.

The Friends Forever relay team is hosting a Children’s Fun Day at God’s Lil Ranch – home of Clay and Wendy Miller at 23 Worcester St. in Mexico from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, April 30. There will be face painting, barnyard games, horse rides, clowns and food. The cost is $5 a child or $12 for three children and all of the above is included in the price. Supervision is required at this fund raiser.

On Saturday, May 7, the Friends and Family Walking for a Cure relay team is having a lawn and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 9 Upper Hill Road which is a dead end road after Highland Terrace in Mexico.

All proceeds made from these fund-raisers go to Relay For Life, a signature event by the American Cancer Society. All funds made will stay in the North Oxford Unit which encompasses the River Valley area.
