Grange worship

MINOT – Members of Androscoggin Pomona Grange 1 will observe Going-to-Church Sunday when they meet at West Minot Union Church on Sunday, April 24, for the 9 a.m. worship service. After church, Grange members will go to Julien’s Restaurant in Gray for dinner at 11:30. All members and guests are welcome.

Degree work

AUBURN – A special meeting of Ancient Brothers Lodge 178, AF and AM, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. Auburn. The officers will confer the fellow craft degree of the order. The meeting will be preceded by by a meatloaf dinner at 6:30 p.m. All Masons are welcome.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Social Bridge Club winners at Schooner Estates on April 18 were: first, Anna Vitiello and Randy Silver; second, Alberta Turner and Helen Little; third, Janice Wolfe and Cynthia Bonsey; fourth, Paul Beegel and Richard Balian; fifth, Claire Lyons and Evelyn Sinclair.

Lifeguard course

AUBURN – The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston is offering a Lifeguard Certification course. Limited space is still available. Course dates are: April 25, 28, May 2, 5, 9, 11, 23, 26 and 31. Combined classroom and pool time run about 6:30 to 10 p.m.

There are several prerequisites for these courses including a 500-yard swim and a minimum age of 15. Upon completion of the course the lifeguard certification and first aid are good for three years, and the CPR expires after one year. Course fee is $200, including course materials. Class size is limited to eight students, so register early at the Auburn-Lewiston YMCA 62 Turner St.

Aquatic program

AUBURN – The YMCA of Auburn-Lewiston begins its last session of swim lessons before the summer season. Classes begin the week of April 25 and end the week of June 13. The following swim lesson classes are offered: Parent & Tot (6 to 18 months), Water Babies (18 to 24 months), Tiny Tots (ages 2 to 5), Youth Progressive Lessons (6 and up), Introduction to Competitive Swimming (6 to 18) and Adult Swim lessons (18 or over).

Each program runs in eight-week sessions. Registration is now open. Class size is limited and registration is taken on a first come-first serve basis. All participants must be YMCA members. A yearly social membership for those ages 5 and under is $20; a youth membership is $45. Class program fee is $45 for the eight-week session.

Inquiry day

YARMOUTH – North Yarmouth Academy will host a Spring Inquiry Day from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 7. The event is for families with children entering middle or upper school in the fall 2006, and for parents of current fifth-graders interested in admission for fall 2005.

The event will showcase NYA students and faculty, who will describe the academic, athletic and arts programs in both the middle and upper school.

This event is free to the public, and will take place in the Priscilla Savage Middle School on campus. Refreshments will be served. Interested families should call 846-2376 to register or ask questions.

LEWISTON – The Lewiston office of the Department of Health and Human Services will be hosting a public informational meeting about adoption and foster care in Lewiston on May 26 for all interested people.
