AUBURN – The Auburn Public Library has received its major grant of $300,000 from the Kresge Foundation, an independent, private foundation created in 1924 to benefit tax-exempt, charitable organizations operating in the fields of higher education, health care, science and the environment, arts and humanities and public affairs.

Kresge’s goal is to provide funds to enhance facilities and to strengthen an organization’s capacity to generate private support of its programs and services.

In order to qualify for the Kresge award, the Building Campaign attracted 1,500 donors and raised more than $6.8 million to meet the challenge requirements. The Kresge Foundation released its grant funds after verifying that available resources could meet the contracted costs.

The Auburn Public Library project is on schedule; the foundation is 75 percent complete, and the steel frame construction will begin this month. Project completion is scheduled for the end of spring in 2006.
