LEWISTON – The Jerks of Grass, one of Maine’s hot bluegrass bands, will be featured at the 2005 edition of Ronjstock, a music festival at Bates College.

The event will go from 1 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in the yard behind The Ronj, the Bates coffeehouse at 32 Frye St.

A number of Bates student bands will also perform at the festival. If it rains, the event will be held in Chase Lounge, 56 Campus Ave.

Bates bands likely to perform are Blue State Secession, the Slut Puppies, the Blueslippers, the Greg Waters Band and the Body Shots.

Scheduled to take the stage at 5 p.m., the Jerks of Grass is made up of mandolin player Ron Gallant, banjo player Carter Logan, guitarist Jason Phelps and bassist Tom Jacques. They are known for strong harmonies and crackling instrumental virtuosity.

The festival is open to the public at no cost.
