The All Maine Invitational put on by L/A Arts shines the spotlight on both returning and new artists from Maine. Jewelry, ceramics, paintings and sculptures in the exhibit, now in its 16th year, will be put on the auction block Saturday, May 7, as a fund-raiser for L/A Arts.

Among the featured new artists are Paul Monfredo and Nancy McCormick of Seal Harbor, who submitted an elegant piece titled “Ribbon Wave,” a white gold, gilt glass mirror surrounded by a rippling pattern in gold, blue and brown.

Other new artists include Janet Muddle, jewelry; Susan Dewsnap, ceramics; Brian Kiernan , painting; and Jennifer O’Connell, painting. (The latter two artists now reside in Vermont but were Maine residents when this year’s event was being planned.)

Among the returning artists is South Portland craftsman Joe Hemes, whose sculptural light “Pentacone” is fabricated of copper and produces a brilliant display of light and shadows.

For a complete list of this year’s participating artists or to take a virtual tour of the exhibit, visit L/A Arts’ Web site at www.laarts.org.

Auction night will be held at Lewiston-Auburn College, 51 Westminster St., Lewiston. Potential bidders will get to view the art on the walls one last time before the 8 p.m. auction facilitated by Jody McMorrow of McMorrow Auction Company.

Music will be provided by the UMA Cafe Jazz Ensemble, made up of University of Maine at Augusta music students. Russ Lombardi, music professor at UMA, directs the ensemble which has an eclectic mix of standards and light jazz for its repertoire.

Mount Appetite Farms will provide hearty hors d’oeuvres with an international flare, including miniature crepes, Aussie sausage puffs, meat and potato turnovers, and cheese and shrimp quesadillas. Items will also be provided by Gritty McDuff’s.

Auction tickets: $30, $35 at the door. For tickets, call (207) 782-7228 or 800-639-2919; or go to www.laarts.org.
