WATERFORD – The Oxford County Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring a camp road workshop from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 27.

The first part of the workshop will be a classroom session held at the Waterford Town Hall off Route 35. Phil Curtis of the Maine Local Roads Center will be on hand to talk about basic road building and maintenance of gravel roads. A representative from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection will provide information on state regulations.

The second part will include a field training session for those interested in learning to operate a front runner grader/rake, with instruction provided by Russ Lanoie. This part will be held at 1135 Waterford Road, off Route 37 in East Waterford.

The fee is $10 a person and refreshments will be provided. All participants will receive a certificate of completion and will be able to rent a front runner from the Conservation District for use on their own gravel road. The workshop will qualify for contractor re-certification credits.
