AVON – SAD 58 Adult and Community Education will offer a summer art course, “Introduction to Drawing in Color,” and invites all who are interested in studying landscapes, still life, figures and animals, portraiture and exploring the traditional tools of naturalistic drawing, to participate.

The eight-week course, taught by Elizabeth Olbert, USM adjunct professor of art and area resident, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Opportunity Center of North Franklin County, 105 Avon Valley.

Olbert has an extensive background in painting and critical theory and has participated in solo and group exhibitions in New York, Pennsylvania, California and Massachusetts. Her work has been featured in magazines such as the New York Times, Art in America and American Art Today.

Students will learn to understand the use of space, perspective, composition and tone, line and proportion. When drawing figures and animals, students will apply knowledge of anatomy, gesture and movement, and will be able to represent likeness, expression and character using portrait drawing techniques.

Cost of the course is $95 and includes supplies students can keep at the end of the class. For more information or to register, call the office of Adult and Community Education at 678-2701, ext. 226, no later than June 1.
