Fun day

PERU – Teachers, parents and friends from the River Valley will hold a Fun For Fireworks Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at Peru School.

There will be face-painting, Mother’s day card-making, a ring toss, fishing game, children’s songs, stained glass making, painting, sidewalk art, duck pond game, toss across and other activities.

The cost is $4 a child or $10 a family with more than two children.

Proceeds will be donated to the Moontide Festival to help defray the cost of the fireworks. Anyone with a question or who would like to donate prizes should contact Laurie Xanthos at 562-7223 until 4 p.m. or 562-7152 after 4 p.m.

Quilters to meet

RUMFORD – The Rumford Area Quilters will meet upstairs at Sam’s Italian Sandwich Shop, Prospect Avenue, at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 9. Members will have supper on their own,quilting discussions and show and tell. All area quilters are welcome.

SAD 43 event

RUMFORD – SAD 43 End-of-the-Year Celebration will be held Friday, May 13, at Black Mountain of Maine. The following four retirees will be honored: Cheryl Gallant, Peggy Susbury, Leslie Doucette and Michael Lavorgna.

A social hour will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m., dinner at 5:30 p.m. and recognition at 6:30. Tickets are $10 a person and can be obtained by contacting the administration office at 364-7731.

Bird watching

GILEAD – International Migratory Bird Day will be noted from 7:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 14, when U.S. Forest Service Wildlife Biologist Lesley Rowse will lead a bird walk in the White Mountain National Forest.

Participants will meet at the junction of Route 113 and the Wild River Road about 2.5 miles south of Route 2. If it’s rainy on the morning of the walk, call 603-466-2713, ext. 231, after 6 a.m. for possible postponement. The rain date is Sunday, May 15.

Birders of all ages and experience are welcome. It is free and no preregistration is necessary.

Dress for the weather with comfortable shoes for walking on easy terrain.

RUMFORD – The Rumford Center Cemetery Association will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Rumford Center town hall.
