AUBURN – The 2005 annual Hairstylist Appreciation Award was presented to Justin R. Ouellette of Marcel’s Barber Shop in Auburn.

Presenting the award was Paul R. Bernard, licensed barber cosmetology instructor.

Ouellette was nominated for the award after his heroic efforts on April 19.

Barber shops and salons around the country celebrated Hairstylist Appreciation Day on April 30.

On April 19 in Turner, Ouellette stopped at the home of Marion Jordan, a 78-year-old widow in Turner, and prevented her from re-entering her burning house. He also controlled a brush fire that was spreading toward the neighbor’s home.

Ouellette was presented the award, which reads: “Outstanding Barber Stylist of the Year. Justin R. Ouellette, we celebrate your acts of bravery and citizenship along with your skilled talents and professionalism as a barber stylist in the state of Maine.”
