LEWISTON – The Jesus Party, a nonprofit faith-based inner city ministry, observes national cultural and social awareness events throughout the year.

May is designated by Congress as National Military Appreciation Month, therefore it honors those Americans who have given their lives in defense of the nation’s freedom and the men and women now serving in uniform.

It also recognizes those on active duty in all branches of the services, the National Guard and Reserves plus retirees, veterans, their families and more than 227 years of the nation’s history.

Ministry directors Douglas and Sonia Taylor invite area children to celebrate with them at 6 p.m. Fridays, May 13, 20 and 27, at 291 Bates St.

Patriotic mentor Jerry DerBoghosian will offer prayer for President George W. Bush, as well as for those men and women who are serving in Iraq. Children will see a video featuring the U.S. Navy flight demonstration squadron, the Blue Angels.

Throughout the month children will have the opportunity to sing America’s patriotic favorites, receive yellow ribbons and American flags and have a chance to win G.I. Joe action figures as door prizes.
