OTISFIELD – A successful car wash was sponsored by members of George’s Fan Club on April 17. George Carman, 39, is a New Gloucester firefighter living with cystic fibrosis. He needs to raise $300,000 to satisfy the costs not covered by insurance for his double lung transplant. The car wash was held at the Spurr’s Corner fire barn.
Due to the volunteers and outpouring of support from residents and people driving by, the club was able to raise $1,000.
Volunteers included six Poland Regional High School seniors, Brittany Copp, Ronan McNulty, Ashley Merchant, Gerrit Petersens, Alex Smith and Natalie Tougas.
Other volunteers included Dan Fogg and several members of the Otisfield Fire Department. Carman, his wife, Amy, and their daughter, Annie, were also on hand. Carman helped wash the cars.
Upcoming fund-raisers include a river walk-a-thon at 10 a.m. Sunday, May 15, at the Great Falls Plaza in Auburn, and a bottle drive at the Spurr’s Corner Fire Barn from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, May 22.
Pickup will also be available by calling Courtney at 577-4121 or 627-3280.
