FARMINGTON – President Quinnale Kinsey called the May meeting of the Farmington Emblem Club 460 to order with 35 members present, 92 absent and one excused, for a total of 128 members.

Americanism Chairwoman Nancy Chase read two stories, one a “A Memorial Day Salute.” She reminded members that help will be needed when flowers are planted in front of the Elks Lodge toward the end of May.

Claudette Merchant, in charge of community service, showed members a cloth draw-string bag that had been donated to Carley Pomerleau’s “Gifts from the Heart” program. The club voted to get items to fill some of the bags.

Youth cheering chairwoman Lesa Thompkins got volunteers to help select girls to cheer this season. Tryouts are scheduled from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Mallett School in Farmington and 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at the Academy Hill School in Wilton.

Members will donate food for the club’s Fathers Day breakfast in June. Volunteers will help Chairwoman Bethany Storer prepare tables and food for the breakfast, which will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Elks Lodge with dads eating free.

Nancy Crosby, in charge of national convention arrangements, which will take place in Boston from Sept. 2 to 8, found that there are 12 members from the club who will attend. The group will go by bus to the convention, with offers made to other clubs to join the trip.

The state convention will be held at the West Farmington Elks lodge from Friday to Sunday, June 3 to 5. The club will be in charge, with member Connie Small going in as the state president at a ceremony on Sunday, June 5.

The “Members Night Out” evening will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, in the banquet room at the Chuck Wagon in Livermore Falls.

The club voted to donate to the Wilton Blueberry Festival events, to Foster Tech. to help send a group of students to Kansas City for an Applied Technology Skill Demonstration, to help send members of the Destination Imagination team to a competition in Tennessee and to Irving’s for Special Olympics.

This month’s raffles were won by Betty Houle, the mystery gift, and Peggy Alexander, the 50-50 raffle.

The June meeting will honor the Member of the Year.
