FARMINGTON – Farmington Emblem Club 460 honored its choices of Citizens of the Year 2005-2006 on May 5. This year they selected two Citizens of the Year, 14-year-old Carley Pomerleau of Jay and Edith Masterman of Wilton.

Pomerleau received her plaque and a bouquet of flowers at her home earlier in May. Members of the club 460, Avis Mahoney, Claudette Merchant, President Quinnale Kinsey, Jean Corcoran and Sharon Jacques visited her at her home in Jay.

Pomerleau and her mother and a family friend, Sheri Couture, showed her visitors the items she has collected through donations from local Boy Scouts and others – child-size lap blankets, stuffed animals, draw-string bags filled with toys books and crayons – arranged on shelves in a corner of the living room.

Pomerleau gave her business cards to each of her visitors. The name of her project is Gifts from the Heart. All of the gifts collected will be given to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

The Emblem Club will purchase items for her project to help fill some of the draw-string bags.

Edith Masterman of Wilton submits the Emblem news to the Franklin Journal each month. She corresponds with the Franklin Journal through her computer with local news for each Friday’s paper.

The club’s press correspondent, Sharon Jacques, contacted Masterman about a year ago to ask if she would add the club news to her weekly news. She agreed and has included the Emblem Club news each month.

Masterman worked for the Wilton Times years ago. She worked her way up to editor of that newspaper. Later she worked in the office of K&H Foster in Wilton. For 20 years she was a Literacy Volunteer, qualifying in 1984. For the past 2 years she has been Wilton’s news correspondent for the Franklin Journal.

Members of the Emblem Club thanked her for helping to get the news out to the public and to members who are unable to attend the monthly meetings.
