FRYEBURG – Two drivers injured last week in a head-on collision on Route 302 remained hospitalized Monday night.

May Brown, 73, of Westbrook, was in satisfactory condition at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, a nursing supervisor said.

Amanda Melendy, 18, of Danville, Vt., was in stable condition at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, a nursing supervisor said. She had previously been listed in critical condition.

The two were among four people and three cars involved in Wednesday’s accident, which took place at 5:29 p.m. about a quarter-mile west of Hemlock Bridge and Denmark Road.

Fryeburg police Officer Dick Murray said Melendy was driving west in a Jeep Cherokee when her vehicle veered across the centerline and hit Brown’s Buick Rendezvous. Megan Givney, 22, of North Conway, N.H., was driving a Dodge Stratus that ran into the rear of Jeep when it collided with the Buick, Murray said.

Givney and her passenger, Kenneth Rhodes, 28, of North Conway, N.H. were not injured.
