RUMFORD – Friends of Library will host a signing by author Monica Wood at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, at the Public Library. She will read from her fourth and recently released novel, “Any Bitter Thing.” A question-and-answer period will follow. Light refreshments will be served. Society program

RUMFORD – The Acadian Society will hold its monthly potluck supper and meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, at St. Athanasius and St. John Parish Center. For the evening program, Joseph Boudreau of Gilead will present his Boudreau and LeBlanc genealogies.

Benefit bingo

DIXFIELD – A benefit bingo will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, at the American Legion. Doors will open at 11 a.m. All the cards people want to play are $25 plus early bird games, winner takes all and extra special games, 50/50 raffle. All proceeds will benefit Dixfield Cougar recreation football.

Scout breakfast

RUMFORD – The Rumford Lodge of Elks 862 will sponsor its annual Scouts breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 22. It is open to all area Boy and Girl Scouts.

Horse show

ANDOVER – The Ellis River Riders will hold the first horse show of the season at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, rain or shine, at the show grounds on Airport Road just off Route 5.

There will be classes in pleasure and equitation in the morning and game events in the afternoon. Spectators are invited free. There is bleacher seating, picnic tables under a shady pavilion and the food booth will serve homecooked foods all day.
