LOCKE MILLS – The Jackson-Silver Post, American Legion, Auxiliary gathered with post members for installation of officers on May 5.

Installing Officer Sylvia Dunham introduced her installing marshal, Marianna Fifield, and chaplain, Elizabeth Whitman. They installed the following: sergeant-at-arms, Irene Redman; historian, Rowena Dunham; treasurer, Jamie Hastings; secretary, Olive Risko; second vice president, Helvi Cary; and president, Florence (Honey) Bailey.

First Vice President Kelly Bickford, now serving in Iraq, and Chaplain Roianne Twitchell will be installed at a later date.

Dept. Cmdr., William (Gene) Bickford, assisted by Gard Enman and Donald Simoneau installed the post officers. After refreshments, both groups adjourned to their respective meetings.

With the purchase of phone cards, a package will be ready to send to Bickford in Iraq to be shared with troops. A number of applications from Telstar High School seniors have been received and a committee was chosen to review them and make recommendations for a $300 scholarship for a girl and a boy.

Chelsea Cozzolino of Woodstock and Mallory Brown of Greenwood have been chosen to attend Girls State at Husson College in June and Kyle Kuvaja of Greenwood will attend Boys State at Maine Maritime Academy.

The next meeting of the post and unit will be held Thursday, May 19, at the Legion Hall.
