RUMFORD – A young Mexico girl was taken to Rumford Hospital on Tuesday morning after the truck she was driving hit a utility pole, police said.

The 16-year-old girl was subsequently summoned for operating without a license. She is scheduled to appear on July 5 in Rumford District Court for arraignment.

Sgt. Tracey Higley said police are not releasing the girl’s name.

Higley said that after the youth veered off Wyman Hill Road, which is a 25 mph residential zone, the 1987 Ford pickup truck she was driving severed a utility pole and came to rest 100 feet away on the road.

“There did not appear to be any serious injury,” Higley said while directing traffic at the scene.

Med-Care Ambulance took the teen to the hospital after she complained of pain, said Detective Lt. Stacy Carter.

Rumford firefighters also assisted.

A Bisson tow truck of Rumford removed the pickup, which sustained an estimated $2,000 damage. Carter said that the pole also sustained an estimated $2,000 in damage.
