LEWISTON – Veterans and anyone else interested will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at St. Peters Cemetery to place American flags on all veterans’ graves. Volunteers are needed as there are around 2,200 flags to place. For information, contact Bert Dutil at 786-2305.

The L&A Veterans Council will unveil three new polished granite benches on Monday, Memorial Day, May 30, at the Veterans Memorial Park following the parade. Anyone interested in participating in the parade should contact the VFW Post 1603 in Auburn.

The council will also hold a Flag Day ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at the Veterans Memorial Park starting with a flag disposal arranged by American Legion Post 153 of Auburn, then at 6 p.m. the unveiling of the ninth stone with 216 names on it, and at 6:30 p.m. unveiling of the World War I plate with names of those who served during that War. This plate was found at the Lewiston Public Works garage and will have a stone to hold it up.
