LEWISTON – The Lewiston Housing Authority board of commissioners announces the availability of the annual Roger R. Berube Scholarship Fund. The authority may award up to four grants of $1,000 each, with up to two grants awarded to public housing residents and up to two grants awarded to Section 8 recipients.

Roger R. Berube, a long-time friend of the Lewiston Housing Community and Lewiston Housing Authority board member from Jan. 3, 1978, to Jan. 2, 1996, died June 14, 1996.

Applicant must be a resident of public housing or a Section 8 housing voucher recipient already enrolled in an accredited college (or will be in the fall), technical college, nursing school or any endeavor the completion of which would lead to a profession or trade. High school graduation or a GED is a must for either teen or adult applicant.

Those interested are asked to contact Reta Herrick at the Lewiston Housing Authority, Department of Resident Services, at 783-8539. Application forms are available at LHA at One College St. or the Hillview Office at 77 Rideout Ave. Forms are also available at adult education offices and guidance offices at the following high schools: Lewiston, Leavitt and Oak Hill.

Deadline for applying is June 15 by the end of the business day. Successful applicants will be notified in July.
