READFIELD – The New England League of Middle Schools has announced that the Maranacook Community Middle School was selected as a league Spotlight School.

Dr. Robert C. Spear, league executive director, said, “The school was selected because of its record of providing a dynamic learning environment for young adolescents and its consistent observance of effective middle level best practices.”

Spear said, “Maranacook Community Middle School’s active hands-on classrooms and parent involvement are but a few of its outstanding qualities. Permeating the culture of Maranacook Middle School is a deep concern for and understanding of the adolescent learners it serves.” He added, “NELMS was very impressed with the excellence that was evident throughout the school.”

The award and designation will be in place for three years, assuming that the excellent practices it upholds continue. The league will present a special banner to the Maranacook school community in acknowledgment of the school’s achievement.

During the three years that it is designated as a Spotlight School, Maranacook will have an opportunity to welcome educators from other middle schools in New England who are seeking to observe excellent middle level education firsthand.

The educational leader of Maranacook Community Middle School is Mary Callan. The New England League of Middle Schools is a nonprofit organization. For more information, visit its Web site at www.nelms.org.
