CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – Members of the New Hampshire and Maine congressional delegations will meet Friday with the head of the commission reviewing the Pentagon’s proposals to close and realign dozens of military bases.

The office of Sen. John Sununu, R-N.H., said the representatives and senators will meet with Anthony Principi, Base Realignment and Closure Commission chairman, to underscore that the Department of Defense deviated from BRAC criteria and erred in recommending the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for closure.

Maine Gov. John Baldacci and New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch have been invited to the meeting.

Meantime, in a telephone call to Principi on Monday, Lynch stressed the economic and military value of the submarine shipyard, a spokeswoman for his office said.
