FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington student Stephani Snyder of East Waterboro has received the Sumner P. and Flora A. P. Mills Community Service Award. The award is presented to UMF students who have volunteered their time to improve the betterment of life for community residents.

Snyder is an elementary education major at UMF. She has volunteered at the Farmington Baptist Church Youth Program since the fall of 2003 and donates her time during the summer to the Living Waters Bible Camp. She has received a $1,000 scholarship for the spring 2005 semester.

Farmington philanthropist and attorney Peter S. Mills established the award in honor of his father and his mother, a UMF graduate, for their commitment to charitable and educational service to the Farmington area.

Criteria for selection is based on the number, consistency and frequency of hours volunteered as well as the significance of contribution made by the volunteers. In order to qualify, applicants must have attained a 2.5 grade point average at UMF and have performed at least 85 hours of community service in the Farmington area within a continuous nine month period within the past year.
