SOUTH PARIS – Patricia and Holger Pulkkinen celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family on May 1 at their home on the Hooper Ledge Road in South Paris.

The party was given by their children, Jody Pulkkinen of Norway, Linda and Joel Pulkkinen of South Woodstock and Joan and Tim Blackwell of Tampa, Fla.

The celebration was reminiscent of their wedding day, May 1, 1955, with the original wedding dress on display and the original wedding cake top adorned the anniversary cake made by their son, Joel.

White gladiola and carnations were used in the decorations. The refreshments were made by Lisa Whitley, a family member. About 40 relatives and friends attended the event.

The guests also enjoyed a display of wedding photographs and scrapbooks of the family’s life from their military years in Guantanamo, Cuba, to the building of their home on Hooper Ledge Road.

Mrs. Pulkkinen, the former Patricia Wood, is retired from her position as vice president of Norway Savings Bank. Mr. Pulkkinen is retired from the U.S. Navy, after 20 years of service. Both have been extremely busy in their retirement. She is an active member of AARP and has been instrumental in the Norway High School Alumni Association’s annual alumni banquet. He is a talented builder and landscaper and has achieved recognition for his pieces of art created from garden shovels, which are displayed by an art gallery in central Maine.
