AUBURN – Six area high school seniors were honored on April 26. The annual presentation of Good Citizens Awards and Good Citizenship Medals was originally scheduled for a special ceremony March 9 in Auburn.

Due to a severe winter storm, the award ceremony had to be canceled. Instead, the awards were presented at the respective high schools by Hazel Wightman, DAR Good Citizens chairwoman for the Mary Dillingham Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

Recipients are chosen by fellow students and faculty members for outstanding qualities in leadership, dependability, service, patriotism, honesty and courage. The Good Citizens were presented with pins and certificates and are eligible to compete for scholarships from the DAR at the state and national levels. The Good Citizenship winners received bronze medals, certificates and lapel pins.

This year’s DAR Good Citizens were Devin Myles, Leavitt Area High School, son of Linda Myles of Turner; Elise Michelle Boutin, Buckfield Junior Senior High School, daughter of Michael and Denise Boutin of Canton; Hannah Lynne Giasson, Edward Little High School, daughter of Katherine Giasson of Auburn; and Brian N. Michaud, Lewiston High School, son of Norman and Debbie Michaud of Lewiston.

Good Citizenship Medal Award winners were Sarah Trexler, Leavitt Area High School, daughter of William and Carol Trexler of Turner, and Candace Marie Allen, Buckfield Junior Senior High School, daughter of Charles and Patricia Allen of Buckfield.

Devin Myles was unable to attend and will receive his award from Michael Poulin, Good Citizens coordinator for Leavitt Area High School.

The chapter has decided to change the annual award ceremony to April in the future.
