RUMFORD – Robert P. Wahls, Columbus, Ohio, grand secretary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, visited Aerie 1248 for the 100th anniversary celebration held on May 20 to 22.

Wahls, a longtime resident of Pennsylvania, moved to Columbus when he was elected grand secretary. He spent 23 years as secretary of his home Aerie in Carlisle and served as president. He then went through all the state chairs to become the Pennsylvania state president. He extended his service to become the eastern regional president.

Wahls refers to the Eagles as a grass roots organization of people joined together to improve the quality of life wherever needed. The Eagles support their national programs, such as the Max Baer Heart Fund, Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund, the Bob Hansen Diabetes Fund and the Golden Eagle/Alzheimer’s Fund, making possible the granting of around $1 million a year to charitable organizations engaged in research.

Wahls and his wife, Carol, have three children.

The Rumford Aerie celebrated its 100th anniversary with activities that included entertainment and a banquet. They ended Sunday morning with a large initiation of new members.
