FARMINGTON – Mt. Blue High School’s Syncopations will perform a spring concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, in Nordica Auditorium, University of Maine at Farmington. The concert is free and open to the public. The group is directed by Carol Shumway and accompanied by Patricia Hayden.

Gospel concert

JAY – Diane Muise of Auburn will present a concert of gospel music at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 5, at Bean’s Corner Baptist Church.

A professional singer for many years, Muise has toured in the United States and Canada, performing up to 200 concerts a year. She has won several awards for her singing and songwriting and has recorded nine solo albums.

Muise presents a varied program of gospel music interspersed with humor and sharing real-life experiences.

The public is welcome. There is no admission but a free-will offering will be taken for her music ministry. The church is located at the intersection of Routes 156 and 133.

Monday Club

FARMINGTON – The Monday Club will meet Monday, June 6, at the Granary Restaurant for a noon luncheon. Afterward, the annual auction, the club’s only fund-raiser, will be held. Each member should plan to bring an item to donate. A new slate of officers will also be presented.

WILTON – The Western Mountain Women’s Connections on Tuesday, June 7, will feature Cindy Goding of Goding’s Taekwondo, who will demonstrate self-defense techniques for women. Lois Ladner, guest speaker, will talk on “The Joys of Singleness.”

Area women are invited to attend the meeting at the Boiler Room Restaurant on Main Street. There are two opportunities to attend. Lunch is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. and dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. The cost is $11, which includes gratuity and tax.

FARMINGTON – The UMF nursery school and pre-kindergarten program will hold an open house from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, in Ricker Addition, UMF campus.

Board meeting

FARMINGTON – Franklin County Soil and Water Conservation will hold its monthly board meeting Monday, June 6, at the USDA Service Center Conference Room at 107 Park St. The meeting is open to the public and is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. A copy of the agenda may be picked up at the District Office. LIVERMORE – All area Republicans are welcome to attend the next monthly meeting of the Livermore Republican Committee to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Community Building, 108 Church St.

The guest speaker will be Trevor Bragdon, who is the political director of the Maine Republican Party. Bragdon was the Second District field coordinator during the Bush-Cheney 04 Campaign.

After the election, he helped plan the 55th Presidential Inaugural in Washington, D.C. Following the Inaugural, Bragdon returned to Maine in his current position, where he is responsible for coordinating the grassroots election efforts for the 2006 legislative and gubernatorial races.

Art on display

FARMINGTON – The work of Farmington artist Lucia Swallow will be featured during June at Heirlooms of Tomorrow, Routes 2 and 4. An open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 3, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 4.

Her passion for art is inspired by painting on location and becoming intimate with the natural beauty around her. Swallow has studied art for 21 years and spends time each day practicing and exploring. She has captured flowers, landscapes and rural settings. She is a member of UpCountry Artists and was recently featured in their Tour D’Art.

FAYETTE – Dr. Ted Baehr, founder and publisher of Movieguide and chairman of the Christian Film and Television Commission, will speak on “Making Media-Wise Kids” at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 4, and at 10 a.m. Sunday, June 5, at Fayette Baptist Church, 39 Baldwin Hill Rd.
