BOSTON (AP) – An irate motorist who had received a parking ticket lunged at a male Boston parking officer, tried to dislodge his ticket book with a karate chop and swung a baseball bat at the officer, narrowly missing his legs, police said.

“If I get a ticket again, I’ll break your legs,” parking officer Robert Mullen said the man yelled at him Thursday afternoon. The man had been ticketed for parking too long at a meter in the city’s theater district.

Mullen said he was writing a ticket for another motorist about 2:30 p.m. when the attack occurred at the corner of Charles and Stuart streets. Afterwards, the man jumped into his Land Rover that had Massachusetts plates and drove off.
