BOSTON (AP) – Boston’s bullpen disaster proved to be a short-term problem.

A day after allowing 11 runs in the final three innings, Red Sox relievers pitched 2 2-3 shutout innings on Sunday to protect a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

Mike Myers (3-1) got two outs, Mike Timlin pitched the eighth and Keith Foulke finished for his 13th save.

“I’ve struggled like I have really never struggled in my career,” Foulke said after his first 1-2-3 save since May 14. “I don’t talk about the negative. I’m going out there for the positive, and if it doesn’t happen, you guys can go talk to someone else.

“Yeah, it didn’t work out yesterday. The bullpen didn’t help the situation. But you worry about today.”

Mark Bellhorn’s sacrifice fly broke a seventh-inning tie, then David Ortiz doubled in two more runs for Boston.

The Red Sox took two of three in a rematch of the 2004 AL playoffs. Boston swept the Angels out of the first round when Ortiz hit Jarrod Washburn’s first pitch in the 10th inning over the Green Monster to end Game 3 and complete the sweep.

“I’ve proven he’s not a fun guy to face with the game on the line,” said Washburn, who earned a no-decision on Sunday after giving up three runs on five hits and three walks with five strikeouts in six innings. Joel Peralta “will learn from that and it will help him as a pitcher.”

Next up for the Red Sox: An interleague series against the St. Louis Cardinals, whom Boston swept in the World Series for its first title since 1918.

Bengie Molina homered for the Angels. Jake Woods (1-1) lasted just two batters, hitting Bill Mueller to start the seventh and then giving up John Olerud’s single.

Jay Payton singled off Peralta to load the bases, then Bellhorn worked the count full. Molina went out to talk to Peralta, but Bellhorn lined the next pitch to center fielder Steve Finley and Mueller scored without a throw to make it 4-3.

After Edgar Renteria struck out, Ortiz doubled to center to give Boston a 6-3 lead. Manny Ramirez struck out to end the inning.

“(Ortiz) has truly grown into one of the top RBI guys and clutch hitters in our league,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “We did a pretty good job with him this series, although … he really broke the game open today.”

Red Sox leadoff man Johnny Damon was a late scratch from the lineup because of a sore right shoulder he injured making a diving catch on Saturday night. Damon left the ballpark for tests, but the results were not available, he said after the game.

The Red Sox scored three in the fourth off Washburn on an RBI double by Kevin Millar, an RBI single by Mueller and Olerud’s sacrifice fly. But Wade Miller gave it back with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh.

Notes: Because of a change by the official scorer from Thursday night, Ortiz was given a hit on a play in the seventh inning that was originally scored an error by pitcher Steve Kline. … Four cast members from “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” took part in pregame ceremonies. Tuesday night’s show will feature a makeover of several Red Sox players that was taped during spring training. … Boston starter Wade Miller allowed three runs on nine hits and three walks, striking out two in 6 1-3 innings. Washburn has won just once in his last six starts even though he allowed more than four runs just once among them.
