BANGOR – A Skills USA dinner fund-raiser will be held by Penobscot Job Corps students as they endeavor to raise funds to send three competitors to the SkillsUSA 2005 National Championships in Kansas City, Mo., for the week of June 20.

The dinner will be held at the Penobscot Job Corps Center Lion’s Den Restaurant on at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 16. Tickets are $10 and are available by calling Mike Jellison at 1-800-949-1937, ext. 196. Seating is limited to 40.

The students aim to raise more than $2,000 to send Cory Farnum, 21, of Peru, Diego T. Palmeras, 25, of Meriden, Conn., and Eric L. Allen, 22, of Winchester, N.H., to the national competition.

Farnum won a gold medal in welding in the regional Skills USA competition, Palmeras won gold in promotional bulletin board, and Allen won gold in technical computer applications. Allen will defend the school’s national goal medal in technical computer application after Mark Calivas of Bangor earned top marks in the category in 2004.
