NORWAY – The Stone-Smart American Legion Unit 82 met recently with newly elected President Kim Hansen in charge.

Joyce Clifford was chosen as alternate delegate to the department convention to replace Ethel Lacourse. It was reported that the Department of Maine’s first vice president, Nicki Weatherby, has been in the hospital.

Lucille Allen reported that she had taken flowers to Ruth Jucius from the unit as a rememberance of their moving to new living quarters.

Marjy Sessions reported that the Western Maine Veterans Home Advisory Committee will host a dinner for men and women returning home from the service and will tell veterans what benefits they can expect. The unit made a donation to help cover the cost of dinner.

Memorial Day plans were made as follows. flag bearers, Rose Moulton and Joyce Clifford; guards, Theresa Dodge and Kim Hansen; flowers in Witheral Park, Marilyn Jones. Poppy Girl is Nicole Paradis, granddaughter of Legionnaire Robert Richardson. Marjy Sessions will chair the Refreshment Committee, with help from Barbara Henley and Christine Weiss.

Donations were made as follows: traveling money for Girls Staters Tiffany Stevens, Emily Denison and Miranda Olmstead; Rockland’s Van Guard Color Guard, Project Graduation and expense money for delegates attending the Department of Maine Convention in June.

Members voted to purchase Pine Tree News for officers and to send cards to veterans at the Western Maine Veterans Home on their birthdays and on Veterans Day.

Pat Tibbetts will check out prices for new curtains in the hall. It was voted to purchase raffle tickets at the convention. Lucille Allen asked members to bring items for the Ways and Means table at the convention. The meeting was preceded by a lasagna supper.
