LEWISTON – Fresh Air Fund volunteer families are needed to host inner city children in the New Gloucester, Gray, Auburn and Lewiston area for the summer.

The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer vacations to more than 1.7 million New York City children from low income neighborhoods since 1877. Through the Friendly Town Program, children ages 6 through 18 join families in suburban and small towns throughout 13 Northeastern states and Canada.

The Fresh Air Fund matches children in New York City with volunteer families and provides transportation to the nearest Friendly Town in that state. Host families do not need to have an large home or to plan extra activities.

Many host families welcome back the same Fresh Air kids summer after summer. However, regardless of the amount of time spent, the effects of Fresh Air visits are forever.

For more information on how to become a host, call Marie Reimensnyder at 926-3557 or Fresh Air Fund at 1-800-367-0003 or www.freshair.org.
