AUGUSTA – Maine Initiatives, a foundation that makes grants to grassroots groups organizing for social, economic and environmental justice, has made a $40,000 three-year grant to the Maine People’s Alliance for its Everyone Deserves A Home project in Lewiston.
The project grows out of MPA’s Visible Community Work, which is involving downtown Lewiston residents in planning for the community’s future.
“I couldn’t be more excited,” said MPA’s Jake Grindle. “Safe, affordable housing is one of the most critical issues facing Maine, and we’re in a position to have a real impact.”
While the project is now focused in Lewiston, MPA plans to expand its outreach around housing issues to other towns to engage people throughout Maine in shaping and promoting statewide housing reforms.
