LEWISTON – Maine Family Federal Credit Union announces its 2005 scholarship recipients:

Jonathan R. Pelletier, son of Gary J. and Joline C. Pelletier of Greene, is the recipient of the Founders Scholarship of $500. He is a student at Leavitt Area High School. He has been on the honor roll and lettered in varsity sports.

Pelletier plans to attend Daniel Webster College in Nashua, N.H., to study aviation flight operations. He has received numerous awards with the Civil Air Patrol and has been Cadet of the Year twice. He has been a flight commander, cadet commander, color guard instructor and emergency services instructor.

He instructs freshmen in the Junior ROTC. He also has played varsity ice hockey for two seasons and worked more than 15 hours a week at LaPoint’s Lawn and Garden.

Ryan Reed, son of Robert and Linda Reed of Lewiston, is the recipient of the Maurice Fontaine Sr. Scholarship of $500. Reed is a student at Lewiston High School.

He plans to attend the University of Maine at Farmington to study secondary education, social sciences. He has been captain of his school’s debate team and qualified for the Grand National CFL debate tournament, along with receiving many first-place debate honors.

Reed is a member of the National Technical Honor Society, earned an Eagle Scout designation and was awarded the city of Lewiston Shining Star award in 2004. He served as vice chairman of the Lewiston Youth Advisory Council and is on the mayor-appointed Colisee Advisory Board. He has worked with youth as a community volunteer and in his part-time jobs.

Chris Curran, son of Michael and Lorraine Curran of Sabattus, is the recipient of the Roger Bissonnette Scholarship of $500. Curran is a student at Oak Hill High School in Wales. He plans to attend Albany School of Pharmacy in Albany, N.Y.

He has won awards in math and geography, plus he been named student of the month several times. Curran has been a member of the Oak Hill Legislative Assembly, Math Team, French Club, Jazz Band and he has been on the tennis, soccer and ski teams. He has been class treasurer and a member of the class leadership team. He has also worked part-time during his school years, including a position as a pharmacy technician.
