LEWISTON – A surprise party was held recently for Gilbert and Rita Berube of Lewiston, on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary. The event was planned by family members Marguerite Nadeau, Mike and Robin Nadeau and Lorraine and Roger Blouin.

The event was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Lewiston, which was decorated with flowers, balloons and streamers. A collage of photos was on display.

The couple renewed their vows, with the Rev. Daniel Greenleaf of Holy Cross Church officiating. Norman Fortin was toastmaster and Lorraine Blouin had charge of the guest book. They received many gifts and are planning a get-away trip in September.

Mr. Berube and the former Rita Vachon were married on June 18, 1955, at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston.

Mrs. Berube is a cosmetologist and is a member of Holy Cross Church in Lewiston.

Mr. Berube is retired from Bath Iron Works and is a Eucharistic minister at Holy Cross Church.

Original wedding attendants present were Pauline Fortin, Norman Fortin, Gerry Berube and Robert Vachon.

Guests attended from Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Old Orchard Beach, as well as the Lewiston-Auburn area.
