WEST PARIS – Tom and Mary Standard and his brother, Charles and his wife, Luella Standard, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversaries on May 22 at the West Paris Baptist Church. The couples renewed their vows at a special ceremony, conducted by Pastor Bruce Tyner.

The prelude consisted of several favorite selections from Tom and Charles Standard’s grandmother, performed by Maurise Veatch, who also played the processional. As soon as the couples were seated, Cheryl Bacon provided flute selections. The vocal solo, “It’s a Beautiful Thing,” was performed by Debi Verrill with memories by Mary Standard. Lisa Anderson presented a violin selection, with memories by Tom Standard. A vocal solo “I Love You Truly,” was presented by Bertha DeHaas and the poem “Our Love Goes On,” was by Charles and Luella Standard. The vocal solo “Doubly Good to You,” was presented by Debi Verrill, followed by the re-commitment of vows, with Pastor Tyner officiating.

Magnolias from the south provided decorations for the event. The same type of flowers had been used 50 years ago for the original weddings.

A reception followed in the church dining room following the service, with about 105 people attending.

Tom and Mary Standard were high school sweethearts, while Charles and Luella Standard were college sweethearts.

A buffet supper was enjoyed by guests attending.
