JAY – Friends Together Peer Support Center, 70 Main St., will have its annual fund-raiser yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Friends Together is the only peer support center in Franklin County and the yard sale is one of the biggest fund-raisers. Donations may be dropped off at the center from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, or items can be picked up by calling June Watson at 897-9984 or Irene Hebert at 897-3468.

Camp opening

STARKS – Camp at the Eastward will celebrate the opening of the summer camping season on Saturday, June 25, with an evening of fun and entertainment. There will be a community dinner beginning at 5 p.m. followed by activities, a concert by the Christian singing group, Flint, and a closing bonfire, ending the festivities at 9 p.m. All are welcome. Proceeds will go to benefit Camp at the Eastward.

July 2 parade

STRONG – The Independence Day festivities will be held on Saturday, July 2, and include a 10 a.m. parade with line-up at 9 on Upper Main Street. The parade route will advance down Main Street left on to River Street, ending at the fire station.

A dedication of the Malcolm W. Burdin Building, the fire station, will be held at 11 a.m. in memory of Burdin’s lifelong service to the fire department. Rep. Tom Saviello has obtained a proclamation in Burdin’s memory from the governor and Legislature.

Following the dedication, a ceremony honoring those residents of Strong involved in the conflict in Iraq will be held.

There are a number of military personnel from Strong who have recently returned from Iraq.

A chicken barbecue will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the fire station.

Tickets for the meal, $5, will be sold in advance.
