MONMOUTH – Cumston Public Library holds a summer reading program each summer. This year’s theme is “Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds.” There are many opportunities to participate.

Preschool story time for infants to age 4 will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and will include a themed story time with craft.

Pajama story time for infants to age 8 will be held from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Wednesdays and will include a story time with bedtime stretches.

Wednesday crafts for elementary through middle school ages will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. Wednesdays. It is a summer reading program with craft.

Books ‘n Bites for ages 9 to 12 will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Mondays beginning June 27. Kids can participate in one or all sessions. Those participating in all sessions will be eligible for the grand prize. Books will be available at the circulation desk two weeks prior to the discussion dates. Call to sign up. Light refreshments will be available.

Friday Afternoon Actors for ages 8 to 12 will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Fridays beginning July 8. Participants will create a “set” and costumes and will participate in a production at the end of the summer. Call to sign up.

Children who complete their reading goals will be eligible for an entry in the grand prize drawing. Weekly prizes consist of will consist of sandwiches, gift certificates, music CDs, music cassettes, posters, books and Children’s Discovery Museum passes.

Grand prizes will be on display at the library and consist of: Ages 2 to 4, Barney Gift Pak; ages 5 to 8, Shrek Gift Pak; ages 9 and up, Harry Potter Gift Pak.

The “Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds” program will begin Saturday, June 18, and end on Saturday, Aug. 6, with a Medieval Faire.

Special presentations will take place on the following dates: Wednesday, June 22, at 6:30 p.m., Maine author Lynn Plourde; Monday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m., Miss Maine Teen Kaetlin Parent; Wednesday, July 13, at 6:30 p.m., Rhythm Inlet of Mount Vernon; Wednesday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m., Chewonki Foundation program on “Bugs”; and Saturday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon, Medieval Faire featuring Medieval Society of Gardiner.

Preregistration is encouraged. It will begin on Saturday, June 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cumston Public Library. For additional information, contact the library at 933-4788.
