NORWAY – After some 19 years as the director and 28 years as a member, Robert Gunn of Hebron is stepping down as music director of the Norway-South Paris Hillsmen Chorus.

A farewell reception in his honor was held May 19 by the Barbershop Harmony Chapter at the St. Catherine’s Church. Gunn and his wife, Sharron, will retire to Hendersonville, N.C., in early June upon Gunn’s retirement as a math teacher at Hebron Academy.

Richard Hallee of Norway served as master of ceremonies. A plaque, tie and other gifts were presented by Carl Foster of Mechanic Falls, president of the Hillsmen Chorus.

Tere Porter, Norway, noted citations from Sen. Olympia Snowe, Rep. Michael Michaud, and state Rep. Sawin Millett of Waterford.

Testimonials were offered by former member Carol Roth, Norway; Ted Tracy, Wiscasset, NED chairman; and Cotton Damon, Norway, on behalf of Barbershop Harmony Northeastern District.

The Gunns have a son and daughter and will be closer to family members in North Carolina.

He will continue singing and will bring a collection of more than 300 tapes and recordings he has made.
