PARIS – Lisa Moore, Harrison poet and writer, will teach College Writing at the Western Maine College Center in South Paris this summer. The course will be offered through Central Maine Community College from July 13 through Aug. 31.

The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday.

College Writing is the basic writing course required for all CMCC programs. It is also transferable to other schools. It offers students the chance to engage in five kinds of writing, all necessary for college work and the business world.

Each student will draft, revise and publish a narrative essay, an informative essay, a literary analysis, a persuasive letter and a documented argument (research paper).

Students will learn to use and document sources and to practice taking written in-class tests. They will also engage in peer reviewing as a strategy for improving and revising drafts. The class is demanding, since a 15-week course is accomplished in eight weeks.

Moore has been teaching writing, and writing professionally, for more than 25 years. She came to Maine as an instructor at Hebron Academy in the 1970s and has since taught in public high schools, adult education programs, informal workshops and LOOK classes.

She is active in the Mountain Poets Society and organizes Poets on the Porch during the Norway Summer Festivals. She has self-published several collections of poetry and writes educational materials for middle and high school students.

Most recently, she authored a biography of Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel, due this summer. This is her second year on the college faculty.
