PORTLAND – Joel Zumaya threw six shutout innings, Victor Mendez knocked in three runs and Kurt Alrosa drove in two as the Erie SeaWolves beat the Portland Sea Dogs 9-0 Friday.

After two scoreless innings, Alrosa’s RBI single was the key hit as the SeaWolves (36-31) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third.

Mendez’s bases-loaded double sparked a five-run outburst in the fifth and Erie capitalized on three walks.

Alrosa’s solo homer was the big blow as the SeaWolves scored twice in the ninth.

The Sea Dogs (37-26) managed only five singles, and advanced only three runners to second base. Zumaya (5-3) struck out eight and walked two. Corey Hamman, Mike Bumatay and Edwin Almonte each pitched an inning to complete Erie’s team shutout.

Portland starter Kason Gabbard (5-6) took the loss.
