LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Library Department has invited children entering grades kindergarten through six to attend the Summer Reading Program’s kick-off event, “Dan Grady’s Marvelous Marionette Medley,” at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, at the Teen Center. Preregistration is required, and people should call the Lisbon Falls Community Library at 353-6564 prior to the day of the performance to reserve a seat.

The production, “Marvelous Marionette Medley” is a fast-paced, string puppet production. The marionettes have body components and costumes that were painted, sculpted or carved and/or stitched by the master puppeteer, Dan Grady. The string puppets express themselves through music, dance and creative movement.

After the performance, kids can walk over to the library to sign up for the summer reading program, “Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds,” and select a few books to start the program.

For the next five weeks, young readers can go to the library’s Children’s Room at 1 p.m. Tuesdays to share books, entertainment, crafts, games and prizes. The program will conclude at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, with an ice cream social.

The children will be recognized for their participation in the “Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds” program. Food donations will be given to a Lisbon Area Christian Outreach food bank representative, and everyone will have ice cream sundaes.
