POLAND SPRING – Poland Spring Resort and the Poland Spring Preservation Society announce a Caddy Camp Reunion, to be held Monday through Wednesday, June 27 to 30, on the historic grounds of the Poland Spring Resort.

During the long history of the resort’s golf courses, the caddy camps were held each summer, preparing prospective caddies to assist golfers from some of America’s most prominent families as they vacationed at the Mansion House and Poland Spring Inn.

The sport was played on an 1895 nine-hole course designed by Arthur Fenn and a 1915 18-hole course designed by Donald Ross.

Events planned include a scramble round played with wooden shaft clubs, with players outfitted in clothing representing an earlier time, including knickers, team colors and tam-o-shanters. There will also be a “best ball” tournament, a Maine Invitation putting event and several social events.

For additional information about the event or to add to the list of former caddies, contact Elliott Levy, executive director of the Poland Preservation Society, at 998-4142.
