AUBURN – American Legion Post 153 Auxiliary, 71 South Main St., will sponsor American Red Cross family care-giving classes on Thursdays this summer.

The program is designed to help individuals provide the best care possible for an elderly loved one. The program features nine presentations, a series of one-hour classes, on educating individuals on care giving skills, how to reduce stress, understanding elderly legal, financial and medical issues and balancing their responsibilities.

The classes are free to those caring for individuals over age 65. There is a $2 a class charge for all others attending. The classes will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the post home.

The scheduled class dates and topics are:

June 30: “Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia.”

July 7: “Positioning and Helping Your Loved One Move.”

July 14: “Caring for the Caregiver.”

July 21: “Healthy Eating.”

July 28: “Home Safety.”

Aug. 4: “General care-giving Skills.”

Aug. 11: “Assisting with Personal Care.”

Aug. 18: “Legal and Financial Issues.”

Aug. 25: “Caring for a Loved One with HIV/AIDS.”

Call the United Valley Chapter, American Red Cross, at 795-4004 to sign up. Class size is limited. Inquiries can also be directed to the chapter regarding specific class content and other family care-giving information.
