Society speaker

LISBON FALLS – David Chaplin of Brunswick will be the guest speaker at the Lisbon Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, July 13, at the Archive Museum, MTM Center, School Street. Doors will open at 6:30. The public is welcome to the free program.

Chaplin will discuss “Ferries of Yesteryear.” He will share stories and photos of ferries in Lisbon as well as those in other parts of Maine.

Breast-feeding

AUBURN – All interested women are invited to attend the next meeting of the La Leche League at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at 102 Bennett Ave., Auburn. The La Leche League offers breast-feeding information and encouragement to pregnant women, new mothers and growing families. Babies are always welcome.

All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion in addition to the scheduled topic, “Breastfeeding: Great Beginnings,” which will focus on avoiding and overcoming difficulties. For more information or breast-feeding help, call the La Leche League leader at 782-6645.

School fund-raiser

LEWISTON – Spare Time Bowling Center will offer a fund-raiser for area schools this summer. Children, parents, teachers, friends and family are invited to purchase a discount card for $15 for juniors and $20 for seniors. The card entitles the holder to one free game of bowling every day during the summer vacation, and 50 percent of the card’s cost will be donated to the holder’s nominated school. Bridge results

LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on June 21 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Winners in Flight A were: first, Jim Flanagan and Richard Allen; second, Ron Reynolds and Ray Sirois; tied at third, Nancy Lindgren and Lucille Theriault with Katie Love and Jeanine Kivus; fifth, David Lock and Luke Merry.

Flight B winners were: first, Jim Flanagan and Richard Allen; second, Roger Briggs and Larry Fortier. Winners in Flight C were Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer.

The quarterly club championship game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the Multi-Purpose Center. A partner is guaranteed.

The club also met on June 22 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. Winners in Flight A were: first, Jeanine Kivus and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Donald Smith and Katherine Love; third, David Lock and Martine Begert; fourth, Misha Tomic and Leslie Buzzell.
