LIVERMORE – The United Methodist Church will serve a baked bean supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, at the church. Adults, $6; children, $3.
Athletes to march
JAY – Area Youth Sports athletes and coaches are asked to be at the MEMCO building on Route 4 at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 3, to participate in the Independence Day parade held the day before the fourth. Participants are asked to wear an AYS uniform.
Chicken barbecue
JAY – The VFW will serve a chicken barbecue following the Independence Day parade on Sunday, July 3, at their hall. The parade starts at 5 p.m. with the barbecue chicken and salads meal to follow.
Free refreshments
FARMINGTON – Henderson Memorial Baptist Church will offer a light lunch to community members following the July 4th parade on the church’s front lawn on Main Street. Hot dogs, chips and a beverage will be offered at no charge in celebration of the Pierce House’s 100th year. A concert and free strawberry shortcakes will be offered at the Pierce House. All are welcome.
GOP to meet
LIVERMORE – All area Republicans are welcome to join the Livermore Republicans for the next monthly meeting of the Livermore Republican Town Committee to be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, at the Community Building on Church Street. There will not be a guest speaker this time instead the time will be used to plan for upcoming events, fund-raising activities and ways to benefit the community.
The group will also work on their Town Committee by-laws. The group invites others to join them in brainstorming ways to make a positive difference in the community.

Summer reading
FAYETTE – Underwood Memorial Library’s summer story hour will be held at 10 a.m. Thursdays on these dates: July 7, 14, 21, 28 and Aug. 4, 11 and 18.
The story hours will be hosted by Lady Elaine and Friends. Anyone who is willing to help or who would like more information is asked to call Elaine Wilcox at 685-3886 or the Underwood Library at 685-3778. The library’s summer hours are from 6 to 8 p.m., Mondays, 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays, 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursdays.
Road project
EUSTIS – Maine Department of Transportation has awarded a bid on highway improvement on Route 27 in the area of Eustis, Jim Pond Township, Alder Streams Township and Chain of Ponds Township. Bridgecorp of Augusta was awarded the $9,709,808.50 bid for asphalt overlay, variable depth gravel, full reconstruction, alignment, safety, drainage improvement and other incidental work. The contractor may proceed at any time now that the contract has been awarded with a project ending date set for Nov. 18, 2006.
